What Not to Overlook When Child-Proofing Your Home

PARENTING CONFIDENT KIDS

It’s never too early to start childproofing your home. In fact, the earlier you start, the better. There are many things to consider when childproofing your home, and it can be easy to overlook something.

Here are three of the most important things to keep in mind when childproofing your home to keep your baby safe.

Cleaning Supplies

Parents go to great lengths to child-proof their homes, but one thing that is often overlooked is the cleaning supplies. detergents, bleaches, and other household cleaners can be very dangerous if ingested or if they come into contact with the skin. To keep your children safe, it is important to store all cleaning supplies in a safe place, out of reach of curious little hands.

You should also take care to use child-safe products whenever possible. There are now a wide variety of eco-friendly and child-safe cleaning products available, so there is no excuse for not taking this extra precaution. By taking a few simple steps, you can help to ensure that your home is both clean and safe for your children.

Cords

If you’re child-proofing your home, don’t overlook cords. They can pose a serious strangulation hazard for young children. Many blinds these days don’t feature cords at all. That being said, if yours do, make sure to keep them out of reach.

You can also tie them up out of the way or install cord cleats to keep them secure. Pay special attention to cords near beds and cribs, as well as any low-hanging cords that kids might be able to reach. Taking a few simple precautions can help keep your kids safe from harm.

Electrical Outlets

When it comes to child-proofing your home, there are a lot of things to take into account. Electrical outlets are often one of the first things that parents think of and for good reason. Children can easily stick their fingers or other objects into outlets, which can lead to serious injury. There are a few different ways that you can child-proof electrical outlets in your home. One option is to use outlet covers. These fit over the outlet and prevent anything from being inserted. Another option is to use tamper-resistant outlets, which have special mechanisms that prevent objects from being inserted. Whichever option you choose, make sure to constantly check outlets to ensure that they are still child-proofed.

Bringing children into your family is an exciting time, but there are some important things to do before they arrive. Child-proofing is a necessity for any household with small children. Be sure you don’t overlook these three safety hazards when baby-proofing your home.
