Habits You Should Start Before Conceiving

Are you planning on conceiving and starting your own family soon? The prospect of having a new baby can be very exciting, and to provide the best life for your new baby, you’ll need to start preparing early. 

Here are a few habits that you should start implementing before you conceive.

Quit Alcohol

First, it is a good idea to quit alcohol before you start trying to conceive. Once you start trying to conceive, you can’t know for sure how long it will take to get pregnant. You could conceive and get pregnant much sooner than expected, so you’ll want to quit alcohol early on just to be safe. Birth defects and developmental issues can occur when you drink alcohol during pregnancy, even early on. 

For example, the baby’s brain, central nervous system, growth, behavior, and more can be affected by alcohol consumption. It can even cause miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature labor. As your child grows, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders can manifest themselves in the form of learning disorders, language delays, hyperactivity, and more.

Eat Healthy

Next, try to start eating healthy even before you conceive. Eating a healthy, balanced diet will help you to feel better, but it can also positively impact your fertility, which will make it easier to conceive. 

Make sure that you’re eating plenty of fruits and vegetables to get the nutrients and vitamins that you need. Additionally, you should be eating plenty of protein, especially once you’re pregnant, as that is essential to your baby’s growth. Lean meat is a better choice than fatty meat during pregnancy.

Track Your Fertility Cycle

Finally, if you’re trying to conceive soon, try to make a habit of tracking your fertility cycle. This can help you to know when you’re fertile and able to conceive, making it easier to plan your pregnancy. There are many apps, websites, and resources available to help you learn how to track your fertility cycle. There are many physical indicators of fertility that you’ll learn to pay attention to, such as your basal body temperature. Not only will you need to track your menstrual period, but you’ll also want to track your ovulation so you know when you have your fertile window. Tracking your fertility cycle can help you to get pregnant at the best time. It can also help you to discover any fertility issues that you might need to address. 

So, if you’re thinking about getting pregnant soon, remember these helpful habits to implement before conceiving. Make sure that you quit alcohol, eat healthy, and track your fertility cycle. This will help you to have a successful, stress-free conception and healthy pregnancy.
